WSC-AR Kirtan Darbar and Seminar on the Ghallughara (Genocide) 1984 at El Sobrante Gurdwara, El Sobrante, CA

On November 9, 2014, The WSC-AR planned, organized and conducted a ‘kirtan darbar’ and a three hour seminar at the El Sobrante Gurdwara Sahib in El Sobrante, CA. The purpose was to observe the 30th anniversary of the start of third Sikh Ghallughara (Genocide), and to remember the hundreds of thousands of Sikhs who were killed by the Indian government from 1978-1998. The entire program was broadcast live on Global Punjab Channel 749 and also heard on Radio Chardi Kala.

Sikhs, including S.Gulbarg Singh Chairperson of the WSC-AR, were invited to speak. Some of the work by WSC-AR members and other Sikhs was highlighted at this event. Three books, “Murder of Pluralism: Coping with Democratic Oppression in South Asia” [Sept 2014], “US Congress on the Sikh Struggle for Khalistan – 2 Volumes” [April 2013] and a booklet on the sacrifices of the Sikhs in the two world wars [Oct 2014] were presented at this event. Additionally a, ‘Sikh Genocide Memorial Plaque’ to commemorate the observance was also presented to the sangat of Gurdwara Sahib, El Sobrante. Over a thousand Sikhs attended this event from the Bay area and beyond.
