Spiritual Leaders present “Service: A Pathway to Peace” at the Interfaith Conference Co-organized by the Sikh Religious Society, Palatine, Illinois and WSC-AR

The Sikh Religious Society (SRS) hosted a conference on November 15 in Palatine. The conference featured ten speakers representing different religious and spiritual perspectives. Jasbir Kaur, President of the SRS, delivered the welcome address and talked about the importance of a gathering of such diverse, distinguished religious and spiritual leaders. S. Gulbarg Singh, Chairperson WSC-AR thanked the guest speakers for taking their time to join the conference and opened the conference with reference to Gurbani including the verse “VICH DUNIYAAN SEV KMAYEEYAY TA DERGEH BAISAN PAYEEYAY”.

Ms. Shayda Safapour talked of the Baha’i faith, Ms. Asayo Horibe, represented the Buddhist faith; Reverend Dirk Ficca shared the insight from Jesus’ teachings in the Christian faith. Anil Deshpande shared the perspective from the Hindu religion; Iman Kareem Irfan shared Prophet Mohamed’s teachings from the Muslim faith, and Dr. Hema Pukharna from the Jain faith. Dr. Drake Spaeth, representing the Pagan tradition, Rabbi Lisa Bellows represented the Jewish faith; Mr. Rohinto Rivetna was the representative for the Zoroastrian faith. Pastor Herbert Martin spoke about the beatings he endured as part of the Civil Rights movement, Gaurav Singh represented the Sikh religion, Ms. Molly Horan, speaking for the Council for the Parliament of the World’s Religions invited everyone to the 2015 Parliament of the World’s Religions conference taking place from October 15 – 19 in Salt Lake City, Utah.
