On Saturday March 21, 2015 Ashvinder Kaur and Mohanbir Singh represented the American Sikh Council (ASC) at the Ten Commandment Hike which was held in the Blackwood, NJ. The Hike is open to all Scouts, families and friends. The Hike is a unique and exciting way to embrace all Faith communities, as well as to learn more about the history and uniqueness of each House of Worship or Prayer, in the town of Blackwood. The Hike is also a great way to show that citizens live the words, Duty to God, not just say them. It’s a unique and exciting way to embrace the concept of respect for religious differences, learn local history, participate in community service, and have fun. It allows all participants to visit different houses of worship or prayer, each with a representative of the Faith explaining one of the (Christian) Ten Commandments.
Ashvinder Kaur did an excellent presentation by explaining the Sikh principles and interlacing with some of the Christian commandments. This event was held at Our Lady of Hope Church in Blackwood, NJ and enthusiastically attended by over a 60 Boy Scouts and adults from various religious backgrounds. Not only were the scouts curious but the adults showed a keen interest in learning as it was an eye-opener for many. The feedback and comments at the end of the presentation were overwhelmingly positive with a couple of Scoutmasters wanting similar presentations done for some of the other Dens and troops in the area.
