Global Sikh Council meeting held in London UK, July 31 – Aug 3, 2015

Global Sikh Council (GSC), the voice of Sikhs worldwide, of which American Sikh Council is a member, held its second meeting on July 31st – August 3rd in London, UK. Representatives from Australia, Canada, France, Malaysia, Spain, Switzerland, Thailand, UK, and the US attended the meeting. Representatives from Pakistan joined the meeting via video-conference.

Major accomplishments of the meeting were: Agreement on the updates to the Constitution/By-laws. Some improvements in the last version were suggested and unanimously agreed.

Discussion on short term and long term goals/projects: Two immediate activities were identified for pursuing.

1) An urgent Response Committee to express GSC voice on various Sikh issues of global importance. Lord Indarjit Singh – UK, S. Kirpal Singh – US, and S. Pritam Singh – Canada are appointed to this committee. Others are expected to be named soon.

2) Issuing a Nanak Shahi Calendar: A Nanakshahi calendar with dates as suggested by Pal Singh Purewal, including the three dates omitted from the 2003 decision will be issued by GSC after October 2015.

Selection of Ad-hoc Executive Committee: Five members were selected to serves as office bearers till next General Body meeting.

  • Secretary: S. Gurdeep Singh, Switzerland
  • Media and Public Relations: S. Jatinder Singh, Thailand
  • Treasurer: S. Harcharan Singh, Malaysia.

Next General Body meeting: The 2015 General Body meeting is scheduled for the weekend of March 19-21, 2015 in Paris, France.
