ASC requests law and order in Punjab instead of intrigue and murder

The American Sikh Council (ASC) is very concerned about the security, law and order situation in Punjab especially for ordinary Sikhs. The Sikh Americans in the diaspora are pained to see the antics of the state government of Punjab, who continue to play with the religious sentiments of the Sikhs in Punjab. The recent assassination attempt, on May 18, 2016 by followers of Harnam Singh Dhumma an ‘American Citizen’ and the head of the Damdami Taksal who lives in Punjab on a visa issued by the Indian government, brings to light the deadly political nexus of the anti-Sikh forces colluding with the Punjab government in trying to snuff out any honest voices of dissent such as Bhai Ranjit Singh Dhadrianwale whose Sikh centered preaching seems to have hit a raw nerve.

It is shameful that the Chief Minister of Punjab is a visible Sikh yet is constantly pandering to the anti-Sikh lobby of the federal government, by trying to diminish and undercut the Sikh ethos in every which way he can. The common Sikh citizen is very aware and will remember how the state government has constantly trampled upon their religious institutions. This current episode should be a wake up call for the powers to be to get their act together and rule righteously, instead of continuing to rule by deceit.

The American Sikh Council (ASC) denounces and eschews all forms of violence, especially this recent cowardly act against a peaceful preacher of the Sikh Faith. ASC sends prayers and condolences to the family of shaheed Bhai Bhupinder Singh who was travelling in the same car with Bhai Rajit Singh when the attack happened and was killed in the encounter.

The American Sikh Council is the umbrella organization representative of Sikhs in the United States. It is an elected body of Sikh Gurdwaras and institutions. Currently 71 Gurdwaras and other Sikh institutions across the nation are members of ASC. The major governing purpose of the organization is to represent the collective view of Sikhs in the United States. ASC works to promote Sikh interests at the national and international level focusing on issues of advocacy, education, and well-being of humankind.
