July 4th, 2016
The American Sikh Council wishes all Americans and the Sikh Community in America a very happy 4th of July. As a Sikh community, liberty and freedom is what defines a Sikh Spirit. These values are not only important but are worth dying for as exemplified by the Sikh Gurus themselves. Sikh people have always been in the forefront of freedom and liberty. While America is not perfect, Sikhs emigrating from countries like India can easily experience that America provides more freedom and liberty than any other country with its size and diversity. Let us take a moment to cherish and celebrate this freedom that makes us a nation filled with love and liberty. Let us all celebrate the diversity that makes America, America. Let us all unite and work together under the principles of love, equality, liberty and freedom that are very near and dear to each and every Sikh person and enshrined in Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji. On this day, let us hope and pray that such a freedom can be experienced by minorities in other countries also, where human rights, especially for minorities, are being daily trampled with impunity.
