Interfaith meeting held at the Beth Sholom Synagogue in Elkins Park, PA

On Monday April 24, 2017, American Sikh Council (ASC) ASC representative S.Kavneet Singh attended the interfaith gathering of 25 faith leaders, organized by the Interfaith Center of Greater Philadelphia. Due to the rising hate across our nation the topic of being an ‘ally to other faiths in order to stand up for justice’ was discussed.

S.Kavneet Singh did a presentation on the martyrdom of the 9th Sikh Divine Master, Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib and how he gave up his life for the right of another faith community (Hindus) to practice their belief freely, even though their beliefs were in direct contradiction to those of his own. This unique martyrdom has no parallels in the annals of religious history across the globe.

Attendees from various faith backgrounds were all unanimous in their appreciation of the phenomenal contribution by Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib in support of religious freedom, justice, liberty and standing up for another faith community as an ally when needed.

There also several breakout sessions to discuss other common interests to further mutual understanding for the benefit of all.
