Interfaith meeting held at the Won (Buddhist) Institute in Glenside, PA
On Wednesday October 18, 2017, American Sikh Council (ASC) ASC representative S.Kavneet Singh attended the interfaith gathering of 30 faith leaders, organized by the Interfaith Center of Greater Philadelphia (ICGP). The Sikh, Baha’i, Jewish, Muslim and Christians (of various denominations) were represented at the gathering.
Rev. Steven Lawrence led the initial part of the meeting on expanding the conversation on race and bias by having all the leaders share their life experiences/stories in order to get an insight and how everyone can make a positive change for improvement through constructive dialog and creative workshops.
The faith leaders broke up into small groups and continued the conservations on issues of race, bias, bullying and how it impacts the various faiths and denominations. They then asked questions in order to understand and gain a better insight for the other to further their own empathy.
The core work of the Interfaith Council of Greater Philadelphia was reiterated and members were requested to have the youth also participate and be more involved in ongoing activities.
