The American Sikh Council (ASC) and its representatives have participated regularly in six of the previous Parliament of the World’s Religion (PoWR) conferences. This year’s PoWR was held virtually because of the ongoing worldwide pandemic. The momentous event was held from Oct 16 – 18, 2021 and was live for 48 hours across the world.
Thousands of visitors attended the PoWR while over 500 speakers from various religious traditions and denominations held breakout sessions, presenting on a myriad of topics; from women empowerment to climate change and everything in between.
There were over 70 speakers representing the Sikh Religion. Some speakers spoke as individuals and many others represented various Sikh organizations and had panel discussions from two – five speaking at each session.
The American Sikh Council (ASC) was the only national organization, an association of 74 Gurdwaras and Sikh institutions, being an umbrella body that represented all the Sikh Americans and held a virtual exhibit/booth which was extremely well attended by people from across the planet. Visitors had all kinds of questions, from the very mundane to some difficult on sensitive topics, all trying to make sense of life, living and the divine.
ASC representatives who spoke and presented at the various breakout sessions at PoWR Conference were, S. Jasbir Kaur, Dr. Gurdas Singh and Dr. Neil-Kamal Singh.
